Well, not quite yet time to polish off the gin... but we are almost finished unpacking. It has taken six days to get down to the last boxes. Six days, people! I don't know if that is good, or bad, or what, but I do know that I need to get polished. I look like I've been at war with our new house. I think I have bumped into every single item of furniture we own and tripped over at least half the boxes (plus Mable, who tries to get my attention by standing in front of my legs while I am carrying a box). I am covered in bruises, scratches and mosquito bites. I'm not even going to describe my feet. (Moving in flip flops? Bad idea. But what if it is 100 degrees? Still a bad idea.) Right now my idea of heaven is a place where one can get a manicure, pedicure, haircut and massage for five dollars (tip included). That, and my friends... plus a little, tiny drop of gin. :)

Well, to be honest, I don't really know where to begin.

Maybe with a photo? That usually sets things off...

Wait, nevermind. I'm going to rely on my literary skills alone now that I am a graduate with an English degree.

When I found out a year and a half ago that I got into UGA, I was in the hospital. The doctors thought that I might need lapariscopic surgery and wouldn't let me eat a single crumb all day. So I sat in the hospital bed, a little drugged up, staring at the T.V. listening to my stomach growl. No fun. At the time, we didn't have health insurance either, so we were praying really hard that I wouldn't need surgery. God answered our prayer, and the doctor came in and said I didn't need the surgery - and what's better - I could eat! So I sent John to an undisclosed location to retrieve my undisclosed craving... (okay, it was Schlotsky's). When he came back to my hospital room he was carrying a large bag of food and a large envelope.

It was my acceptance envelope. And my sandwich. I couldn't have been happier. Actually I started to cry, and for a few minutes I didn't think I would stop. I was so scared I wouldn't get in, so scared to have surgery, and then poof! No more fear, only relief.

John has a very awkward photo of me in the hospital gown, crying, holding my acceptance envelope with the hand that has an I.V. I was so excited.

Anyway. Now I feel the same way, that it is all over, and I had so many anxious dreams of failing classes or sleeping in on the morning of an exam. Then, all the sudden, there weren't any more exams. And that's the best feeling... no more fear... only relief.

I can't thank you enough for all the support and encouragement you've given me! You are the best, and that's that.

Man, oh man. I'm guessing that you guys are as tired of hearing me talk about school as I am with writing about it, so I will spare you! (For those of you who may be confused, I have a May-mester and then...fin.)

Anyway, I have some news, which, though school related, is pretty exciting: John has been accepted to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He's gonna be a Doctor! We're going to move (!?) and I'm exceptionally proud of him! Phew. That was a big announcement.

In fact, I don't think I can follow it up with anything. This is all I've got, and it seems inadequate:

One more exam and then...

...sleep.

I wish I could say that I'm finished after this exam, but I'm oh-so-close. Two more classes in May, and then I really will be finished! I can't believe it was only 1 year ago that I wanted to go back. I can't believe that by the time June is here, I will have my degree. That's 20 classes, 63 hours, 5 semesters, and lots of sweat and tears. I've worked hard!

Yet I know there are people out there who have done it under much more difficult circumstances. Maybe as moms, or single moms... and I must say that is amazing. I lift my hat to you!

Nothing feels better than accomplishing a personal goal. Or at least, that's what I suspect. I'll know soon enough.

Oh, Sam Taylor-Wood. You just get it. I love your Self Portraits, primarily because I wish this was me in the photo, feeling completely weightless. Don't you guys wish for a day when you're so carefree you could float? These portraits, to me, just say aaaaaahhhhhhh, and not in a dentist-chair kind of way, obviously, but in an I'm not stressed about anything at all kind of way. ;)

We all need a confidence booster from time to time. Or, if you're needy like me, on a daily basis. I bought this book today, thinking it would be such a nice, refreshing read. What can I say? I'm notoriously hard on myself. And I still get in 7th grade mode and mentally compare myself to everyone. Anyway, I'm not calling this book a cure-all, but it seems to be filled with little exercises that bring about self-acceptance. That sounds nice. I'm sure John would appreciate it if I stopped moaning and groaning about zits, winter flab, split ends, pasty skin and tight jeans.

I wish there was a laundry-angel who would fly down and beautify my hideous laundry-room-dungeon (and then maybe fold some fitted sheets, too). Because, well, I am terrified to go in there right now. Let's just say that John found a creature that rhymes with "CAT" in our laundry room, nibbling on Mable's dog food in the wee hours of the morning. So now the clothes are piling up and the exterminator is not answering his phone.

Oh my goodness. I have to say I was entirely swept up with the royal wedding! The ceremony was so moving and lovely... (that choir!) We all need a little pomp from time to time, and I loved seeing the wacky getups in the crowd. Talk about enthusiasm... Anyway, Kate was literally glowing. Her dress was perfect (and her sister's, too). She looked relaxed, calm and oh-so-radiant. What a fun celebration! Here's a few of my favorite photos. (Hopefully you aren't tired of it already!) I still believe in hats. I am pulling for them to make a return. In fact, I went to TJMaxx the other day to look around and the selection was picked over, which is a positive sign. I am not brave enough to wear one for Easter, but I do think I'll try for summer vacation. They really do come in handy on the beach... Here are some inspiring beauties from Anthropologie. Yesterday I was talking to a friend of mine about school (and how lackluster I've felt lately concerning assignments) and she looked at me and said, "Uh-oh, you've got Senior-itis."

But spelled, Senior-itis looks really weird. Senioritis? Is that better?

Anyway, she was so right. I've got a major outbreak... you remember what it was like to be in school, so close to graduating but the weather so unbelievable you thought... papers? What papers???

If you can offer up some words of encouragement, wisdom, advice or tips on how to push through the burn and get that diploma I would be so grateful. (You can even yell at me through the comments section. I deserve it. I've been playing Texas Hold'em on John's phone when I have novels to read.)

I've never minded cauliflower. I thought it was okay and would munch the florets dunked in ranch at baby showers. I'd cut it up and sneak it into salads. But I've never thought it was anything special. At best it has a nice crunch.

Until one day...

Ina Garten told me to slow roast it with garlic cloves & olive oil, then add salt and pepper and a little bit of parsley and pine nuts, plus a splash of lemon...

And I am going to buy cauliflower every single time I go to the grocery store now. The depth of flavor in this dish transcends anything you would ever believe cauliflower to be capable of. This dish has dimensions! My eyes have been opened. I'm a believer in cauliflower. I'm cauliflower's new best friend.

You will be too if you make this recipe. I promise.

P.S. It is SUPER easy. :)

Garlic-Roasted Cauliflower

This recipe is surprising in so many ways. First, who thinks of cauliflower as flavorful? Second, roasting all that garlic in olive oil makes it delicious. And third, it's so easy! Roast the cauliflower with the garlic and then toss it with toasted pine nuts, parsley, and fresh lemon juice. You'll never think cauliflower is boring again.

Ingredients
1 head garlic, cloves separated but not peeled
1 large head cauliflower, trimmed and cut into large florets
4 1/2 tbsp olive oil
2 1/2 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 cup finely chopped flat-leaf parsley
3 tbsp pine nuts, toasted
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice

Directions
1. Heat oven to 450 degrees F. Bring a small pot of water to a boil and add the garlic cloves. Boil for 15 seconds; drain and peel. Cut the largest cloves in half lengthwise.
2. On a rimmed baking sheet, toss the cauliflower with the garlic, 3 tbsp olive oil, 2 tsp salt, and black pepper. Spread into a single layer and roast, stirring twice, until the cauliflower is tender and the garlic is lightly browned, 20 to 25 minutes.
3. Transfer the cauliflower to a large bowl with the garlic and pan juices. Add the remaining 1 1/2 tbsp olive oil, parsley, pine nuts, and lemon juice. Sprinkle with 1/2 tsp salt, toss well and serve hot or warm. Serves 6.

For the past long little while, I've sort of shunned blogging about food, and I didn't offer any explanation because honest, I didn't have one. Deep down I felt a little bit guilty writing about food when I was making so very little of it - or even enjoying the process. (Thanks, school.)

So I switched over to other things and that felt like a nice change.

But then John and I were standing in the DeKalb Farmer's Market in Atlanta, surrounded by fish tanks holding live crabs, lobsters and various strange fish varieties, spices from around the world, endless aisles filled with fruits and vegetables, a reasonably priced gourmet cheese section, artisanal breads and sauces galore. My heart went pitter-patter and I looked at John and whined,

"I miss food."

Which was a nonsensical statement, considering I never miss a meal, but the point was that I miss getting my kitchen messy and producing a meal. I miss the winning feeling that comes with tackling a daunting recipe, the gratification that comes with discovering new varieties of fruit instead of new varieties of restaurants. (Ya know what I mean? Thanks, winter!)

So I made myself some avocado toast with a fried egg on top this morning and decided that I would tell you all about it, because it was very tasty (and it combines my three favorite ingredients in the world: bread, eggs and avocado).

(This photo comes directly from Cup of Jo and the process is pretty easy, but I wanted you to know that I like to mash up my avocado in a bowl with a fork and add salt and lemon, then smear it all over rye bread and then add the fried egg on top. Soooooo good! You can of course make your own variation.)

Anyway, the point of all this jabber is to declare: there will be more recipes to come!

Okay guys, time for some honesty - baby fever - let's talk about it. I don't mean to scare anyone (or get anyone's hopes up either) but I'm feeling the fever creeping up on me. When does it usually hit? When did it (or didn't it) hit you?

My guess is that my age (coming up on 27) is a normal time to get the fever and it is absolutely exacerbated by so many dear friends having babies. Right? I was talking to my grandmother the other day and she said, "how old are you, Annie?" and I told her and she said "goodness! I had five children by the time I was your age."

And I was almost jealous.

Do The Dew.

I thought I knew how to do the dew - dewy makeup, that is, and it turns out that I was waaaaay off. Can anyone say grease lightnin? Yikes! So I did a little research and found some simple tips for how to get the dewy-skin-look in time for spring. (I'm putting in bold all the tips I previously got wrong so you will not make the same mistakes I did). Good luck doing the dew, ladies!

The key to looking dewy and not greasy is in how you prepare your face before you apply makeup. Mostly, remember not to overdo it -- though if you live in a warm climate, dewy can easily turn to gooey because of natural heat and perspiration.

Follow these tips:

If you're naturally a bit oily, start with a clean, dry face, and apply an oil-free moisturizing lotion, skipping the T-zone, which doesn't need it.

If your skin is dry, start with a clean, damp face, and apply a light coating of moisturizing cream to the entire face.

Instead of using foundation, choose a sheer tint that exactly matches your skin tone and is not a hint darker. Look for a product labeled with the words "glow" and "transparent," and avoid anything with shimmer. Remember, you're looking for dewy, not sparkly.

Use very little product and blend well. Apply just a few drops of makeup, concentrating on the upper cheekbones and sides of the face; blend in light strokes with your fingers.

Apply a golden, rosy-hued gel or cream blush to the apples of the cheeks, and extend the makeup lightly upward at the cheekbones.

Apply a soft highlighting cream or gel to the entire eyelid and under the brow bones.

To keep your look more natural, use only the slightest bit of mascara.

Keep lips clean and simple, using the same golden-rosy shade you used on your cheeks.

Don't apply face powder -- it will make your skin look matte, not dewy.

Well, it looks like they found the secret to the fountain of youth and would you believe this study in the New York Times? Looking young has everything to do with exercise! (If you don't believe me, read the article.)

So I'm not the greatest when it comes to exercise, but this research has me feeling motivated. Just this one bit is enough to get me off my butt:

I meant to post this yesterday, but didn't get around to it (because I have 900 pages to read in Vanity Fair in a very short amount of time). But now I've brought up the topic of Vanity Fair, and feel I can now proceed to post about vanity... in other words, who I thought was best dressed at the Oscars. Amazing as it is, I have to give admiration to the youngest nominee, Hailee Steinfeld of True Grit (and I thought she should have won the Oscar, too)

Everything about this Marchesa dress suits her. The length is adorable and age-appropriate. She looks cute and sophisticated at such a young age. If I ever have a fourteen year old daughter I hope she would choose something like this (and not try to look older/tackier). It would make me very proud.

My 2nd place choice was Mila Kunis in Elie Saab. She looks beautiful, even though she isn't smiling.

My third choice may be unpopular, but I loved Cate Blanchett's unusual and unique Givenchy gown. It is just. so. interesting.....

A Lifetime of Love

my grandma and grandpa, dorothy and donald, were married on a warm june afternoon in 1949 in a small church in st. paul, minnesota. the day before the wedding, a doctor had discovered that my grandpa had strep throat and prescribed him antibiotics and bed rest. the morning of the wedding, his temperature was well over 100°F. regardless, nothing would stop him from marrying my grandma. she wore a beautiful, new, white suit with pearl and gold buttons and an orchid corsage, a borrowed gold necklace, and a traditional blue garter. after driving off in their decorated car, my grandpa went back to bed. i love this photo of them. my grandpa could not take his eyes off her, and who could blame him.

What do you think? I think you might be able to determine age by the type of jewelry, and at least take a guess at the social status by the hugeness of the jewels. And then there is personality... funky, fun, simple, classic, retro, hippie, outlandish, exquisite, modern, relaxed, serious... the list is endless. Ah, Valentine's day is lighting up the blog world, but I must confess... my husband and I have botched Valentine's day, someway, somehow, since we've begun dating. We approach this day like clumsy people with two left feet. The charges against each other are long, and include forgetting the actual day and some very sad looking flowers (neon colored carnations).

Optimistic & Uplifted.

Oh you guys, I am so happy January is over, done, fin and we won't have to greet it again for another year. I know winter is still here, but we are one month closer to spring and that makes me feel more optimistic & uplifted, because to be honest, January was giving me the killer blues. Yech. Apparently, January was also giving our friends the blues too, because they called on Friday and asked if we would like to pack up and head to the beach for an impromptu camping trip, and we heartily agreed.

It felt so good to have sandy feet, and hike around with the dogs - Mable & Greg - watching them leap and chase birds. Also, to sleep under the stars and hear Mable growl at lingering raccoons.... fun stuff! I heartily recommend the beach as the cure for anything, but especially the January blues. Go, if you can and sleep under the stars.

Um, guys? Have you ever read Persuasion, by Jane Austen? It is SO GOOD. I repeat, with all caps and the added emphasis of italics: It is SO GOOD. We had it assigned to us in my 19th Century British Novel class, and I am supposed to complete it on next Tuesday - but wait! - I couldn't put it down. I think this may be the first time I have completed an assignment early. And the funny part is that I kind of want to read it again, and feel a little bad about finishing it so quickly, because now it is over and I already miss the pleasure of having it in my hands. At the end of the book (don't worry I won't spoil) I was squealing with glee. Literally squealing. I can't remember when I was last so excited about a novel. Clearly I am now on a Jane Austen kick, and scheming of ways to get my husband to watch Sense & Sensibility with me for the hundredth time, thinking of naming my future daughter Marianne and wanting to Persuade you to read it ASAP.

(Oh and I love this bedroom. I think it could fly as a modern day Austen bedroom. Don't you think so - especially with that romantic looking headboard? I need to collect some portraits.)

The Fashionable Aspect.

For the past few months (or at least since winter hit) I've been skeptical about the fashionable aspect of Dansko shoes. Once I was wearing my black pair in Nordstrom and the shoe salesman told me they looked like nurses shoes. (Thanks a lot, right? No offense, nurses.) I suppose he was kind of right, but I like to think of them as more a comfy clog. Does that fly? Anyway, the point is that I was psyched to see someone rocking the Danskos on The Sartorialist, mainly because that is the first time (and probably the last) I've seen an article of clothing I own on The Sart, and also because this woman makes Danskos look cool! This may be an impossible feat. However, nurses shoe or not, they are so comfortable.

Anyway, I think they look even better with the exposed sock. Any thoughts on the Dansko? To love or not to love?

Hello, hello. How was your extended holiday weekend? Hopefully it was fantastic. I have to say that the best part of mine was getting off this detox we attempted. Let me just tell you: it was pure misery. On day two I had full blown headaches, the kind that make your head feel like it will explode if you stand up too quickly or turn your head around too fast. By day three I had full on body aches that no warm bath could contend with. By day four I was begging for Mexican food, and by day five we were stuffing our faces with chips and queso, happy as clams. If you are wondering if there was any redeeming factor at all, I will tell you that a few friends said I looked "glowy" on Sunday, but that was probably because I'd recently purchased this (which, I might add, is worth every penny). We went to see Black Swan (freaky!), and then I made quite a tasty little soup, and some yummy lemon-yogurt cake. And when you are back to eating normally and drinking coffee, it can amount to a wonderful weekend, which it was.

p.s. sorry no picture for you today, I had an awesome one for you picked out, which I will try to share later, but it wouldn't load. check back later, you'll love it.

Along The Lines.

Along the lines of the rustic look, I'm seeing lots of images lately of ladders in bathrooms or elsewhere in the home. I think they look good. In fact, I am going to keep my eye out for one, even though there is nowhere to put it right now, eventually it could serve as something useful. Perhaps in the bathroom for towels? Put a bird on? Hang objects from? Bedside table? They don't have to serve a purpose at all, except to look nice.

Also, I am also on the lookout for one of these vintage espresso makers. They are so cool! Where do you find them? Any suggestions? (My tip for finding a ladder is at an antique store, but no luck spotting the espresso maker yet.) I would like to indulge once I am allowed coffee again!

Something about lots of snow makes me wish that my living space was a little more rustic - and certainly a lot less drafty! I don't know about you, but I think wood is just about the most beautiful resource for home decor. Even simple items like a wooden wine bottle holder or antique cutting boards make a room look more rustic and cozy. Or, perhaps this wooden bathtub and the wooden outdoor sauna!

John and I started our detox today. It was a goal for the New Year. This morning I awoke to find the ground covered in snow, which is awesome, but snow seems kind of lonely without hot coffee.

Instead it was a berry blast smoothie, complete with whey protein and milled flax seeds. Yummy. I know I do not sound enthused about this detox (which was not my idea), but then again, when I think for a moment over the long list of bad food products I have consumed over the past few weeks alone, I start nodding my head and get re-energized for detox program 2011. It is only a few days anyway. Okay, I'm still justifying myself. I'll stop rambling.

One of my favorite movies this past year was An Education, starring Carey Mulligan & Peter Sarsgaard. Right now you can watch it for free on Netflix (!!), which is what John and I did last night, even though we saw it several months ago. I love the '60s decor, French music and especially the costumes, so I was pleased to discover Design Sponge's recent post Living In: An Education.

Doesn't it make you want to go back in time? Look how cool the tea kettles were! Oh, and that sofa is still cool. Love.

(I am usually too distracted trying on clothes to notice.) Here are a few I think it would be delightful to read when on the plane or riding in the car. They look like so much fun - or great gifts - or both:

The Happiness Project, by Gretchin Rubin, catalogues the small achievements (going to bed earlier, getting organized) that add up to amount to happiness.

How to Sew a Button, by Erin Bried, because let's face it: I still do not know how to do this properly.

Your Mother Was Right by Kate Reardon. Sigh. Yes, usually, but that does not mean I will let her catch me reading this book!

Dogs, by Tim Flach, the ultimate coffee table book, complete with hilarious photos of some adorable dawgs.

How to Find Flower Fairies by Cicely Mary Barker. This is a "children's book" but I do not care. I would love to learn (via pop-up magic!) how to find flower fairies!

The Gospel According to Chanel by Karen Karbo. Well, why not. The woman was clearly worth emulating.

I'm feeling rather hateful at the moment. Harsh thing to say, but also true. This usually happens when I don't receive a particular grade I was hoping for, almost always when this particular grade is on a paper. This morning I woke up early to take my final exam and worked through it with an unfortunate pounding headache. Received said paper, growled at grade, then came home and let Mable out. Of course she stepped in her own poop (time to shovel, John!) and then ran upstairs before I had a chance to wipe it off her paws and jumped all over my white bedspread. Not exactly the best morning. All I can say is that I hope my husband's morning is going a bit more smoothly seeing as he's currently in a med-school interview. Phew.

It is frustrations (and anxieties) like these that lead me to declare that it is time for some Happy Thoughts. So, without much ado, I'm going to declare a few of mine, in the hopes that it'll cheer me (and maybe you) up. Here goes.

1. I'm going to have a new nephew in exactly four days. And then I'm going to get to meet him very soon.

2. I'm not always miserable and Mable isn't always a total disaster...

in fact, sometimes she melts my little heart.

3. This house is a happy thought. Especially the light fixtures & the outdoor fireplace.

4. Scotland scenery is a happy thought.

6. Christmas and New Years, aka: the best occasions to wear sparkles.

7. Christmas decorations = mega happy thought (& sight). And Christmas is right around the corner!

8. Despite major and minor frustrations, there's a lot of love in my life. So, that's my last (and best) happy thought.

Last night, John and I put up our Christmas tree - a real one for us this year! It is always my job to put on the lights, and I take this task very seriously. I don't know about you, but I want that tree to be sparkling. Taking my time, I wind the strand of lights around every single branch until the tree is loaded with glittering lights. (John kind of slings the lights on, so his job is to put on ornaments.) Anyway, it is looking good! All the twinkling has made me feel inspired to post some more lovely lit-up photos. Enjoy!

Well, I hate to do this to you, I really do, but I must confess that when I said I had found the best chocolate cookie recipe in the world I might have lied. Not intentionally, you see. Normally I wouldn't say anything to you, because you are in possession of a wondrous, marvelous chocolate cookie recipe... but the holidays are coming up. It wouldn't be right for you to not have a choice in the matter, would it? And so it is with you at the center of my best intentions that I present to you another (perhaps better) chocolate chip cookie recipe. Behold:

The cookie that will break your heart. That's the official name, I'm not being clever and I haven't actually made it yet, but I've read the description, and I highly respect the chef. (She calls this cookie pure magic.) Plus, the photo looks like the kind of cookie you'd be an idiot to pass up. I mean, look at that sheen in the middle. You know you see it, that sparkly area that reflects the light. You can tell that the oatmeal-y edges are crisp and that the center will deliver chewy goodness, same as you can tell that this mug was invented by a genius.

How incredible are these nest rests? I think they are awesome! They look like human-sized bird houses... (and also a little bit like giant sized floating hershey kisses). If I were five years old, this would be my dream spot to read my Berenstain Bears books... although I have no idea how that guy got himself into the last one!

Dear readers, it appears that I may have the flu. Or a cold. (Probably a cold.) And I've been doing some thinking: I think that you should know about Kate Spade's new inspiration book, Things We Love, because, well, you know you love Kate Spade. Not to mention, this is the kind of book that would put Debby Downer in a good mood. I mean, look at these things we love:

Of course!

Stripes & the perfect red lipstick...?

...Amen.

As you can see this book looks like the happiest coffee table book ever made. It's so perky! It makes me think of "A Few of My Favorite Things"...you know... and then I don't feeeeel so baaaaaaaad.... This book may be the cure to the flu (or a cold). Thought you might like to jot it down on your Christmas wish list... another thing to love!

Aren't these watercolors from Dimdi's Etsy amazing? I think they would look so adorable framed in a nursery. In fact, I'm thinking my 8 months pregnant sister would absolutely love them. My favorite is the goldfish :)

Just when I started getting excited about J.Crew Fall 2010, and the weather is finally conducive to sweaters, capes & coats, J.Crew comes out with spring 2011...

can we just skip winter altogether and head back toward spring? Damn, J.Crew, you always make me want what I can't have.

Is anybody else craving sugar like nobody's business? It seems to be all I can think about, and all I want to snack on. Maybe it is because the holidays are sneaking up around the corner? Or maybe it is a stress coping mechanism? I don't know. I thought I was a salts kind of person. You know, potato chips. French fries. Apparently I'm a Double Coffee Crunch Ice Cream kind of person now. The type to make a run down to Big City Bread at four in the afternoon for a double chocolate cookie. Or a late night run to Dunkin Donuts (so shameful! I can't believe I publicly admitted it) for a glazed. (I don't even feel guilty for dragging my husband along, who has an even stronger sweet tooth. He's a parasite, he lives off my cravings. When they hit he gets to cash in on them.) Anyway, don't worry. I'm not going to rant and rave about sugar and keep you hanging. I thought you all should know that Molly Wizenberg discovered what she believes to be the most delicious chocolate chip cookie recipe of all time. Which means I now have to make those cookies, because even thinking about them makes me drool all over my keypad. You are welcome, non readers of her blog!

And also, because we're talking about things that are kinda sweet... Tom's has some new arrivals and they are pretty stinking adorable. Bubble gum pink sparkling Toms or chocolate corduroy Toms? Cuuuuuteee. And a tough call:

When I saw these necklaces by Eva Fields, I immediately thought of the artist Andy Goldsworthy. Her necklaces are made from valuable stones and hand-crafted. I think they are so beautiful, and they remind me of Goldsworthy's work. A win-win.

Sometimes, instead of concentrating in class, I sit and think about how enchanting it would be to live in a real cottage, complete with a yard gnome. John and I would probably end up looking like yard gnomes, complete with red cheeks, suspenders, pointed hats and portly bellies, but it'd probably be worthwhile. We'd sit in the garden all day drinking pints of ale, singing merry tunes and that'd be the life. Now to choose which cottage... I love them all but I'm intrigued by number two! It appears to be a two-story cottage... what's your favorite?

My husband stumbled across this house yesterday via the New York Times (his favorite reading on Sundays) and we are obsessed. The best part, I think, is the living room that has glass windows and a view into the garden. Also, I'm always going to be sold with a good spiral staircase. To top it all off, this place is located in the 14th arrondissement in Paris! Swoon. Luckiest homeowners ever, methinks. Some people know how to dress. Alexa Chung is one of them. All these photos make me want to go thrift store shopping for leopard print hats, old leather bags, military boots & grandpa sweaters. She's also walking proof girls don't need to show a lot of skin to have appeal. Bravo, Alexa. (P.S. Very last look is my favorite. Must find black blazer and that leather bag!)
